…It might be the only sunshine he gets all day.”
A retired co-worker, Moodie, came by today to see us months after undergoing a complicated kidney treatment. He’s walking with a limp now and with the help of a cane. He’s an 80-ish African American who lived in the Philippines for a long time back in the day while he was in military service and who, like the others, fell in love with a Filipina and our country. He always referred to me as the Filipino child or grandchild he could have had. And yes, he’s the closest one I could get to a gramps at this point. When he saw me, he limped toward me with arms spread out and said, “Come here, my baby girl, give me a hug.”.
Baby girl. Or the way he said it. It made my day! Definitely one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard. The sweetest thing indeed!!!
