CHASING BEAUTIFUL SKIES (My Gratitude Journal)
April Fool’s

I can’t begin to tell you the horror I had to go through this morning. It’s not that I didn’t find a solution right away, but it was more of the initial shock because it was way out of the normal routine…my usual scheme of things, so to speak.

I scooped up my work purse getting ready to head out to the garage when I realized that I had forgotten to retrieve my good old reliable bunch of keys from hubby’s car before he left for work! It’s a neck strap with all the stuff that gets me sailing throughout the day without a glitch — my house keys, my car key, the digital key to enter my workplace, my digital photo keychain, my USB flash drives, portable store cards, our home security remote control, my mini-maglight, etc. The hubs and I went out last night on an errand and I didn’t bring a purse. Because it is quite a ginormous bunch, I wanted to leave the keys in his car and so he hid it under his seat before we got out. An accomplished errand later, we got back into the house and went straight to the bedroom to rest.  My keys, like any other out-of-sight thing was bound to suffer in my personal attention-deficit-ridden world….were forgotten.

I called the hubs, and his “REALLY?” sounded so calm I thought he was doing an April Fool’s on me. Unfortunately, he really did accidentally bring my keys to work with him, still conveniently tucked under his seat. And I was left with no spare to hang on to.  Good thing, we have a spare car parked several blocks down (not really ours, we bought it as a graduation gift for my stepdaughter who’s graduating in June). I found it’s key hanging where it should be, as well as our spare house key that’s cleverly hidden somewhere (and I ain’t tellin’ yah where!!!).

I manually activated our home security alarm system and finally took off. I was 10 minutes late for work and I had to ask our receptionist to buzz me in. Not bad. Not bad at all.

But I now see keys in a totally different light. KEYS RULE!!! How will you get your car to start? How will you get in and out of your house…or anywhere for that matter? How will you keep something safe, hidden and protected? How will you get inside your workplace if by some twist of fate you are the only employee around? Who would have thought that this everyday keychain that I’m sure everyone possesses would hold so much control of our daily undertakings? Owning a key for something signifies your ownership of that something. All because no one else will have access to it except for those who have the same keys.

Keys rule, that’s all I can say.

And I now have to keep a spare somewhere or include that in my checklist every time the hubs leaves for work before I do. Which is practically everyday.  *sigh*

What’s in your keychain?
